Joby has restarted flight tests of its second pre-production aircraft in Marina, California. Flight testing was put on hold on February 16, 2022, when the aircraft crashed. No injuries were reported.
For now, the reasons behind the accident are unclear, however, Joby’s internal safety review has given the green light to continue flight testing.
“We’re excited to be back in the air with our second pre-production prototype aircraft, building on the tremendous flight test achievements our team has made to date,” states Didier Papadopoulos, Head of Programs and Systems at Joby.
The incident is still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Bureau (NTSB).
Joby recently expanded into the Asia-Pacific region, partnering with South Korea’s SK Telecom (SKT) to provide zero-emission air taxis across the country, as well as with All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Toyota Motor Corporation to integrate air taxi services with ground transportation.
