According to a recent Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) press conference, China’s general aviation fleet flew 584,000 hours in the first half of 2022, representing an 11.8% year-over-year increase and 20% growth from the same period in 2019.
China’s GA rebound comes after several years of decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to data provided by Asian Sky Group, after average annual growth of 14.9% between 2009 and 2019, China’s general aviation flight hours witnessed an overall decline of 8% in 2020 compared to 2019.
Speaking during the press conference, Sun Wensheng, deputy director of the Department of General Affairs, CAAC, said that it is necessary to actively expand investment in civil aviation, accelerate the construction of key civil aviation projects, and strive to certificate 256 transport airports by the end of 2022.
At the same time, CAAC will continue to promote general aviation medical rescue, short-haul transport, unmanned aircraft logistics and other areas based on the expansion of domestic aviation demand.
