Airbus’s H225 helicopter flew with 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
This milestone was part of a flight campaign aimed at understanding SAF’s impact on helicopter systems.
“It makes a new stage in our journey to certify the use of 100% SAF in our helicopters, a fact that would mean a reduction of up to 90% in CO2 emissions alone,” states Stefan Thome, Executive Vice President, Engineering and Chief Technical Officer of Airbus Helicopters.
The company intends to reduce carbon emissions from helicopters by half by 2030. Further flight tests are expected to continue on different helicopter types.
This will pave the way for the certification of 100% SAF in helicopters by 2030.
