The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has released its “14th Five-Year Plan for General Aviation Development.” The plan was launched on June 8, 2022.
It details a roadmap focusing on the development of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and autonomous drone operations.
According to Sohu News Service, which featured an interview with an unnamed official, the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) aims to broaden applications for drone usage. It will also support Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) logistics and operations in the Greater Bay area.
This will help accelerate the growth of urban air traffic and promote cross-border integration.
New trials and construction of UAV test bases will be supported through the plan. On the flip side, local governments will further enforce public safety supervision of drones, with stronger punishments for those who illegally fly them.
Previous 5-Year Plans, such as the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), have focused on developing general aviation which included promoting lower-altitude airspace, alongside the usage of drones.
