Zenergy Unveils Battery for eVTOLs

Zenergy, the Chinese manufacturer, has officially unveiled its aviation battery that will be used to power eVTOLs.

The battery will meet four major performance requirements: high energy density, safety, overall capability, and fast charging, which will be able to charge aircraft up to 80% in 15 minutes.

With a high energy density of 320 Watt hours per kilogram (Wh/kg), the battery will make electric aircraft lighter, allowing them to fly longer distances. The battery has a high discharge rate, giving it more power and faster discharge times to meet the strenuous demand of aircraft when in flight.

Adhering to ppb-level aviation safety standards, Jiangsu-based Zenergy is also conducting product development and aviation certification for large-scale delivery with leading aviation companies in Europe and the U.S.

“As a rising force in the power battery industry, Zenergy is rapidly ascending. Its forward-looking technology and products will help China’s new energy vehicle industry continue to move forward steadily,” Chen Jicheng, Zenergy’s CEO, said.

Zenergy is not the only company developing batteries for eVTOLs in China. In April, Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., known as CATL, unveiled its condensed battery which has even higher energy density of 500 Wh/kg. The technology is a significant improvement over current lithium-ion batteries with an energy density of around 200-300 Wh/kg.
