SkyDrive and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) have agreed to base the type certification of SkyDrive’s aircraft on the JCAB Airworthiness Inspection Manual (AIM) Part II (Revision 61).
The certification basis will apply to SkyDrive’s two-seater SD-05 eVTOL.
A type certificate is to showcase how an aircraft complies with the necessary safety and environmental requirements.
With eVTOLs being an emerging technology, SkyDrive had to work closely with JCAB during every step of the way in its certification process.
“We’ve now come to an agreement with the JCAB to adopt AIM Part II as the basis for type certification. We are very pleased that we have moved a step closer to obtaining a type certificate. From here, we will continue to deepen our partnership with JCAB and discuss plans toward obtaining a type certificate,” states Nobuo Kishi, Chief Technology Officer at SkyDrive.
SkyDrive plans to launch its flying cars in 2025.
SkyDrive recently received an investment from Kintetsu Group Holdings.
