The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for Garmin’s GI 275 electronic flight indicator in Airbus AS350 helicopters.
The GI 275, a “simple and straightforward upgrade” according to Garmin, can replace many aging flight instruments such as the primary attitude indicator, course deviation indicator (CDI), horizontal situation indicator (HSI), or multifunction display (MFD).
Pilots can operate the system using the touchscreen or a dual concentric knob which allows pilots to access different functions.
The screen can display altitude and optional helicopter synthetic vision technology showing a 3D topographic view of terrain, traffic, obstacles, power lines, and airport signposts. Additional features include a display of outside air temperature, groundspeed, true airspeed, and wind information.
