Bombardier has officially commenced building its first full-service facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The 100,000-square-foot maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility will see Bombardier expanding its infrastructure in the Middle East and doubling its worldwide aftermarket services to nearly one million square feet.
The Canadian manufacturer expects to open the facility in 2025 and provide comprehensive business aircraft MRO services, including scheduled and unscheduled heavy maintenance, aircraft modifications, paint modification, aircraft on ground (AOG) capabilities, and aircraft parking services.
Featuring a large hangar and comprehensive parts depot, the service center will help Bombardier grow its aftermarket revenue, create more than 100 jobs in the community, and enhance its presence in the financial hub.
“The Middle East is an important market for Bombardier with more than 150 aircraft, and we are pleased to be establishing a highly efficient facility in the UAE for our customers in the market – and for those visiting from around the world,” said Éric Martel, President and CEO, Bombardier.
“We look forward to supporting Bombardier in the years ahead to witness the company’s contributions to business travel in the UAE and the region as well as the aviation sector and economy. The presence of Bombardier underlines Abu Dhabi Airport’s commitment to general aviation, and is a major step forward to make Abu Dhabi the hub for general aviation in the region,” said Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Abu Dhabi Airports.
Previously, Bombardier reported 25 aircraft deliveries and US$1.5 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2022. The earnings come from a 20% year-over-year increase in aftermarket revenue, which has risen to US$372 million as a result of an increase in flight hours and Bombardier’s newly opened service centers in Singapore, the US, Australia and the UK.
