ZeroAvia Acquires Fuel Cell Maker HyPoint

U.K.-based hydrogen-electric propulsion system developer ZeroAvia has acquired fuel cell technology company HyPoint, in a move ZeroAvia says will expedite its development of zero-emission power systems for regional airliners.

The acquisition will enable ZeroAvia to incorporate HyPoint’s fuel cells, which usually run at high temperatures, with its hydrogen powertrains that it is currently developing for existing aircraft.

The two companies have spent the past few years working together on high-temperature proton-exchange membrane fuel cell technology, with ZeroAvia noting that its purchase of HyPoint will add to its “already leading expertise in developing the full powertrain to enable hydrogen-electric flight.”

“We see this as a significant forward step for ZeroAvia, and a hugely important strategic step to strengthen our leadership position in hydrogen-electric powertrain development for aviation,” said Val Miftakhov, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of ZeroAvia.
