Swiss air rescue company Rega signed an agreement to buy twelve H145 helicopters from Airbus, increasing its fleet size of this five-blade rotor to 21.
The agreement was signed after Rega purchased nine H145s in March 2022 in a bid to replace the current AW109SP DaVinci and modernize its helicopter fleet.
Compared with the old DaVinci and four-blade Airbus H145 helicopters, the new Airbus aircraft can reduce the volume and cost of maintenance work and allow rescue missions in high-altitude regions.
“With this decision, we are ensuring that in the next 15 years, too, Rega can continue to provide medical assistance by air to its patients professionally and reliably,” said Ernst Kohler, CEO, Rega.
The company, which has 14 helicopter bases in Switzerland, is aiming for a single-type fleet to simply servicing, maintenance and management. Rega is investing over $US200 million in the modernization and expansion of its helicopter fleet.
