Japan’s Mitsui Bussan Aerospace Orders Six More AW139s

Mitsui Bussan Aerospace, a Leonardo helicopter distributor in Japan, has ordered six AW139s, bringing the country’s two-engine helicopter fleet to nearly 70.

Japan is growing its AW139 fleet with orders being placed by Japan Coast Guard, Ishikawa Prefecture Fire Fighting & Disaster Relief, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport of Hokuriku, and Saitama Prefecture Fire Fighting & Disaster Relief. The AW139 has logged more than 110,000 flight hours.

The Japanese aerospace trading company is an authorized distributor of Leonardo AW139, AW169 and AW189.

In 2021, Japan had a fleet of 680 helicopters, making it the third-largest helicopter market after Australia and mainland China, according to Asian Sky Group’s helicopter report published in 2022.
