Capital Power Donates US$1 Million to STARS

North American power producer Capital Power announced this month to provide STARS Air Ambulance US$1 million to help renew its helicopter ambulance fleet.

The donation has raised a total of US$2 million following Capital Power’s first donation in 2020 in support of the Canadian non-profit organization’s campaign to upgrade services and achieve its fundraising goal.

“We’re honored to provide the final US$1 million donation needed to complete the replacement of their helicopter fleet. With operations and employees in Alberta and British Columbia, it’s important that we support the essential work of STARS so that the service can continue to save lives across Western Canada,” said Brian Vaasjo, President and Chief Executive Officer, Capital Power.

STARS, which operates a fleet of Airbus H145 and BK117 helicopters, decided in June 2018 to replace its BK117 and AW139 aircraft with nine Airbus H145s. The latest donation from Capital Power will be used to purchase the tenth aircraft.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for this incredibly generous gift from Capital Power,” said Andrea Robertson, President and Chief Executive Officer, STARS. “We often say that it takes a community to save a life and when businesses and organizations support the important, live-saving work we do every day, it lets the community know how much they care.”
