Austrian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) company Shiebel has been awarded with an iSAR Research and Development contract, which will enhance the maritime search and rescue capabilities of its Camcopter S-100 Unmanned Air System vehicle.
The contract, awarded by The Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima, also known as SASEMAR, will include the integration of new sensors to be installed in Shiebel’s S-100 UAVs to detect castaways, drifting objects, toxic substances in the high seas, emissions from ships, and sea surface pollution at any given time of day.
The new sensors will essentially expand of the scope of the S-100 UAVs and allow them to perform a variety of search and rescue missions simultaneously, removing the need to swap out any sensors after each mission.
“This contract confirms the superiority of the solutions we provide and will further contribute to our technological dominance,” said Hans George Shiebel, Chairman of the Shiebel Group.
SASEMAR is part of the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, a department under the Government of Spain responsible for preparing and implementing policies on land, air and maritime transport infrastructure and the control, planning and regulation of transport services.
