Overair has partnered with Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. to provide advanced materials for Overair’s Butterfly electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The Butterfly prototype will use Toray’s T1100/3960 prepreg system in its airframe and propulsion units. The prepreg system allows for increased performance as well as autoclave and out-of-autoclave curing.
“Our unique propulsion system requires materials that provide a unique combination of high stiffness and high strength, while also maintaining the optimal weight targets for the vehicle,” states Ben Tigner, Overair’s Co-Founder and CEO.
The Butterfly’s propeller is scheduled to be on display at the Farnborough International Airshow from July 18th to July 22nd in England.
The aircraft is slated to start flying in 2023.
Overair recently received $145 million in funding from Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Aerospace.
