The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has welcomed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) adoption of a long-term net-zero carbon emissions goal for the aviation industry by 2050.
The net-zero target was announced at the 41st ICAO Assembly, which was held in Montreal, Canada, bringing together more than 2,500 delegates from 184 states and 57 organizations.
The ICAO said the achievement of the goal will be contingent upon multiple carbon emissions reduction measures, including an increase in the production and wider use of sustainable aviation fuels.
“The business aviation community has always prioritized measures to enhance the safety and sustainability of flight,” said NBAA President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Bolen. “We welcome this significant step taken by ICAO toward further decarbonization, and we will continue to work with our industry partners toward achieving this ambitious goal.”
