Leonardo announced on April 1st, 2022 that it had received orders for 23 helicopters from several operators based in Europe, North America, and Latin America. The orders have a combined value of nearly 256 million EUR. Deliveries are planned for 2022 and 2023.
The helicopters will mainly in VIP and corporate transport, energy support roles, as well as search and rescue operations.
The breakdown of sales includes 15 AW139 intermediate twins, three AW169s light intermediate, three AW109 GrandNew light twins, one AW119Kx single-engine, and one AW189 super medium twin-engine helicopter.
The new deliveries will also support expanding operations in Japan, Italy, and Greece, for shuttle services, charter and offshore transport, as well as emergency medical services, respectively.
According to Asian Sky Media’s 2021 Asia-Pacific Civil Helicopter Fleet Report, Leonardo has a total fleet of 468 helicopters in the Asia-Pacific region and is ranked third in terms of helicopter original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Its most popular helicopter model remains the AW139, with 244 helicopters in the region.
