Skyports Partners with Thome and Wilhelmsen

Skyports recently partnered with Thome Group (Thome) and Wilhelmsen Ships Agency (Wilhelmsen) to speed up the development of Skyports’ drone delivery operations in Singapore.

Thome and Wilhelmsen are some of the biggest players in the maritime industry. Thome is recognized as one of the world’s leading independent international ship managers, whilst Wilhelmsen is a multinational maritime group with over 2,200 locations worldwide.

Drone services will mainly focus on Singapore’s maritime sector, more specifically shore-to-ship deliveries.

Skyports will also collaborate with Singapore’s Maritime Port Authority (MPA) and other government sectors to develop and test a Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for Proof of Concept (POC) operations for shore-to-ship deliveries.

Trials will include employing Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) deliveries of drones flying from temporary distribution hubs to predetermined anchorages.

“Looking ahead, we hope to continue developing the AAM industry in Singapore and the region to enhance processes in the maritime industry – by reducing delivery times and carbon emissions, providing a new transportation option that is both more efficient and more sustainable,” states Yun-Yuan Tay, Head of APAC at Skyports.

Skyports hopes to complete up to 100 deliveries during the partnership.

The company previously secured US $23 million in its Series B Funding Round.
