Royal Canadian Air Force Upgrades its CH-146s with Bell Aviation

Government of Canada contracts with Bell Aviation to upgrade its fleet of CH-146 Griffon helicopters.

The contract is intended to extend the life of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s fleet of 85 CH-146 until the mid-2030s.

Bell Textron will start the modification on the first 9 helicopters and will sub-contract suppliers for modification on the remaining helicopters.

The CH-146 is a variant of the Bell 412, which is the third-most-popular model in the lessor market in the Asia-Pacific region.

“This project will have an incredible economic impact, benefiting the economy, the supply chain and, most importantly, the aerospace workers, who are the best in the world.” Said The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Public Services and Procurement.

“We are proudly celebrating the award and implementation of the Griffon Limited Life Extension project for the Royal Canadian Air Force by the Government of Canada. Our teams, located from the East to the West Coast, in collaboration with industry partners, ensure that the skills required to sustain the Griffon remain resident in Canada.” Said Steeve Lavoie, President, Bell Textron Canada.

According to Asian Sky Media’s Civil Helicopter Fleet Report, Bell Aviation is the second-largest helicopter OEM in the Asia-Pacific region.
