Joby Aviation acquired Avionyx to help with its aircraft type certification with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Avionyx develops avionics systems for a variety of aircraft.
Software verification is an important part of the aircraft certification process. Avionyx was chosen due to its services meeting FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.
This acquisition will allow Joby to grow its resources quickly to meet FAA certification requirements.
“Acquiring Avionyx puts us in an excellent position to meet the regulatory requirements necessary for us to bring the Joby aircraft to market. Having worked alongside Avionyx for the last year, I’m continuously impressed by the wealth of experience they bring to our software verification activities,” said Tom Ferrell, Development Assurance Lead at Joby.
Joby will test the functionality of its aircraft software systems through a variety of pre-programmed tests. This will be done in Joby’s Vehicle Software Integration Lab (VSIL).
Joby hopes to launch its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in 2024.
Joby recently tested its aircraft noise profile with NASA.
