MRO Japan recently completed it first check of a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) registered Airbus ACJ. Based at Naha Airport, Okinawa, Japan, MRO Japan is partly owned by All Nippon Holdings, which also owns Japan’s N0.1 commercial airline – All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Although the company usually works on commercial airliners, the MRO firm received approvals from EASA in October 2022, allowing it to perform maintenance checks on aircraft registered in Europe.

The first aircraft to undergo checks following the approvals visited the facility in the middle of November. During the checks MRO Japan inspected the aircraft’s engines, landing gear and other systems.

After completion of the checks a small ceremony was held, during which the logbooks for the Malta registered Airbus ACJ318 were ceomonisly handed over to MRO Japan.

“MRO Japan has consistently demonstrated that it is one of the leading MRO companies in the Asia-Pacific region,” said a spokesperson for the aircraft. “Handing over our ACJ’s logbooks to MRO Japan today is an especially proud moment for us as it is the culmination of many months of work. We look forward to working closely with MRO Japan for many years.”

Founded in 2013, MRO Japan is 45% owned by All Nippon Holdings, with smaller stakes owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the Okinawa Promotion and Development Finance Corporation, and several banks.

As well as maintenance services, the company is also behind the painting of several Pokémon themed airliners in both Japan and Taiwan.

The day after the ACJ’s logbooks were handed over Asian Sky Group sat down to talk with MRO Japan’s President Takashi Takahashi. You can read our exclusive in an upcoming Asian Sky Quarterly.
